An abyss
Came blank, took the plank, and out with a rank.
diving deep into the depths of the unknown, without a dive.
strings attached like a puppet,
the forces of nature dragged me into its vortex
where i was thrust into the fire ( element)
to be wrought into what i am today,
though in the most subtlest of forms.
my body being subjected to all sorts of twists and turns,
effecting every inch of my muscle,
turned my body into a free flowing fluid,
like the water (element).
in a more mysterious way,
it simultaneously freed and lightened my mind,
as thin as air (element).
in the advent of which in realization
i could easily be grounded to the earth (element)
as well as reach out for the stars (ether element).
my introduction to yoga and into the shala
was more or less a work of nature
with a couple of human elements playing their part to my benefit.
my deepest and sincere appreciation
to those who imparted me the ancient knowledge
through their divine presence and eager spirit.
my first day in class :- a day of reckoning.
peace be thy soul that enters the shala,
a feeling like you are in the himalaya.
positive vibrations all over the place,
one can only experience solace.
an introductory class by our guru,
so deep , humble and true.
Prayer on the lips in chorus recited,
Deep down inside the Gods were delighted.
A soft prayer and incense filling the room,
We bathed outselves in sacred perfume.
Yoga is not only about physical asana,
neither is it only about prayanama,
or even shatkarma,
it is eternal bliss called = Nirvana.
The twelve step Surya Namashkara,
will relieve of your Ego or Ahamkara,
whose radiance will be shone on your face,
and be humbled by the Almighty's grace.
Reminds me of a Prayer :::::
AUM:
Tam Suryam, Jagataam Natham,
Gyan Vigyan Mokshadam,
Maha Paap Haram Devam,
Tam Suryam,
Pranamaamyaham
Feet together, toes spread, thighs Engaged,
hip up, tummy in, chest out, shoulders back and
there you stand, fully Braced.
We join our hands in solemn Meekness
raising it up, reaching for His Holiness,
all the way down, along with the Torso,
placing our hands, on the earthly Floor,
far behind a leg in horse's Pose,
stretching the whole back from head to Toes,
Left leg meets the right in a Dandasana or a Plank,
stay there for as long, keeping your mind Blank,
plunge down in Ashtanga Danda Namashkara,
toes, knees, chest, chin and hands touching the Floor,
holding your breath giving you peace and Succour.
A sudden rush of oxygen fills the Lung,
lifting your chest high up in a Bhujang,
resembling a cobra with its hood up in Pride,
we all learn from the gift of nature's Tribe.
You transform yourself into a Mountain,
lifting the hip, high up in a Fountain,
every posture is an idea to go against Gravity, lengthening the spine, giving it Elasticity,
inhale and exhale for a few Rounds,
toning up your muscles, losing a few Pounds.
Back to Ashwasanchalana, the beautiful horse's Gait,
if there be a better pose, only acceptance, why Debate.
joining your feet together with smoothness and Poise,
hard from out and soft inside, like the Tortoise.
In the end
we close our eyes and join our palms in a spirit of Gratitude,
building within us an inner Fortitude.
But this , only the Prelude.
Ashtanga yoga, like the octopus, has eight Limbs,
each one carrying an oath and song of the Holy Hymns.
if followed in truth, life beats to its Rhythms.
While Yama is all about ethical Discipline,
to be in control just as does the body's Insulin,
the great commandments are rules of Morality,
to be carried by an individual and the whole of Society,
A - himsa is a negative command that says not to Kill,
whereas a deeper meaning is simply to love beyond one's Will,
the moment bitterness creeps in, violation seeps out by Expressions,
your decisions are your own character's Reflextions.
right food, right thought, and right deed,
so say the scriptures, will bring,
health, wealth, and happiness indeed,
